The Rising Sun, Carter Lane, EC4V 5DY

    8 July 2025 from 6 p.m.

    Speaker from 6.30 p.m.

Where we will have exclusive use of the first-floor bar

    Our guest speaker will be

    RICHARD STARNES

Richard is a cyber-security expert who has led cybersecurity teams for organisations including London Metropolitan Police Service, Heathrow Airport, Capgemini and Direct Line Group.  A notable highlight of his career was serving as the Officer in Charge for Cybersecurity for Operation London Bridge, the state funeral for Queen Elizabeth II.  He a recently joined member of FWC, is a Liveryman in the Worshipful Company of Information Technologists (WCIT), where he serves as the Chair for the Security Panel.  He serves also as a NED in the Cyber Resilience Centre for London and has often been invited as a guest lecturer by educational institutions including the University of Oxford, Saïd Business School, and the London School of Economics.  He is currently looking for his next full-time, executive role.

Richard will explain the emerging threats from those “bad actors” trying to steal our data and sabotage the systems upon which the modern world depends, and what sensible organisations – and individuals – should do about it.

There will be no charge for these events, just use the bar and do bring friends!

An opportunity to unwind, natter with friends old and new.

Note that the next networking event will be on 9 September 2025 - no August networking (but do join us for the rowing!)

    ANNUAL THAMES ROWING EVENT

Farringdon Ward Club’s annual Thames rowing event will take place on Saturday 9 August 2025.

We will gather at Richmond Bridge Boathouses by 12 noon, row up to The  Anglers at Teddington (The Anglers at Teddington Lock ) Pub for lunch, and return for  5 p.m.  Some members may simply like to join the rowing party for lunch – at about 2.00 p.m.

Cost, excluding lunch, will be £20.

    Transport:

Members who wish to drive should find parking in the road called "The Avenue" on the West side /Left  bank of the river at the immediate end of Twickenham Bridge, and from there walk over the Bridge to the right bank side and Richmond Boathouse which is just to the North of Richmond Bridge.

Club Members who just want to join us for lunch at The Anglers pub may have to park wherever they can find a space in Teddington, and walk, as the pub only has a small car park.  Members may also make arrangements to row upstream and handover to someone else for the return.

Richmond Railway Station is about half a mile from the Boathouses.  There are regular trains from London Waterloo – the 11:20 takes just 16 minutes and arrives at 11:36 a.m.

Dress appropriately - sunhats and sun cream advised, hopefully - but have a rainproof cagoule handy as well!

More details will be provided nearer the time – if you have any queries please ask Roger Pitts-Tucker, email: robert.tucker235@gmail.com

    HMS WELLINGTON

HMS Wellington, formerly HQS Wellington, is moored on the Thames - its stern lines tied off in the Ward of Farringdon Without.  The ship is the only surviving Grimsby class sloop, the only surviving Battle of the Atlantic convoy escort, and is one of only 16 major Royal Navy historic ships that survive today.  It is now managed by the Wellington Trust - see Home - HMS Wellington.

We invite members of the Club to join the Curry Lunch on 18 September - where we hope to take three tables of eight - and meet others interested in the ship and the Trust.

Timings are 12.15 p.m. for drinks, sitting down at 1.00 p.m. for a three course lunch, selecting your menu choices on the day.

The cost per ticket is £55 for members and their guests.

Access is via a ramp from Victoria Embankment.
