  The Churchill War Rooms is one of the five branches of the Imperial War Museum.

  The museum comprises the Cabinet War Rooms, a historic underground complex that housed a British government command centre throughout the Second World War, and the Churchill Museum, a biographical museum exploring the life of Winston Churchill.

  Construction of the Cabinet War Rooms, located beneath the Treasury building, began in 1938. They became fully operational on 27 August 1939, one week before Britain declared war on Germany. The War Rooms remained in operation throughout the Second World War, before being abandoned in August 1945 after the surrender of Japan.

  Meet @ 1 pm Thursday 29th October 2026 outside the War Rooms

  Followed by a visit to the Horse and Guardsman Pub from 5.00pm where you can order food and drink as required at your own expense to round off this enjoyable and fun visit.

  Jolanta Filipek is a Chartered Financial Planner (CFP™) . Twenty-five years ago she left Poland for the UK with one ambition: to see the world. More than 40 countries later, from Guatemala to Nepal, she's still travelling, and she believes that's exactly what good financial planning should make possible. Her route into the profession was anything but standard. In the 1990s she worked as a couture seamstress for Tomasz Starzewski, whose clients included Diana, Princess of Wales, before founding her own business bringing baby swaddling blankets to the UK market. Today, alongside advising clients, she runs webinars and events helping women build confidence with money, and hosts a LinkedIn book club on finance and the psychology of money."

  We are delighted to announce that we have a very special evening members event coming up soon with Sir David Wootton who - amongst many other things is - a former Common Councillor of Farringdon Within, former President of the Farringdon Ward Club and former Lord Mayor.  He remains active in many fields, a true City leader - just glance at his Wikipedia entry.
  
  The format of the evening will be a relaxed "fireside chat" with our President, David Selves, with a Q&A afterwards.  There will also be an opportunity to eat, drink and "break bread" at the famous Punch tavern with its beautiful Victorian decor. The food is superb as this menu shows with a cash Bar until 10.00pm:

  Join us on our hugely enjoyable annual trip on 23/01/27 to the panto to see – Sleeping Beauty and the little Prick - at Brick Lane Music Hall. This award-winning pantomime for grown-ups returns for 2027!

  A larger-than-life tale of magic and mayhem, brought to you by an award-winning team, with a delicious three-course pre-show dinner.

  The plot as we know it
  35 years after the cantankerous, evil fairy Carabooze cast a spell on Princess Rose, damning her to prick her finger and fall into a death-like sleep, Rose has come up with a plan to stop the curse once and for all. With the help of Nanny Fanny, and her two best friends, identical twins Willy and Billy Prick, Sleeping Beauty and The Little Prick is a re-imagined story of mistaken identities, time travel and double bluffs. Rooted in music hall tradition, this is the classic fairytale pantomime reimagined for the 21st century.

  How you can join in

  Get there for 5.00pm. The bar opens at 5.30 p.m., dinner at 6.30 p.m. and the show itself starts at 8.15 p.m. - scheduled to finish at 10.45 p.m.

  Cost: £75.00 per ticket for members and their guests. Limited number available.

  Stephen Twining

  Stephen Twining is the 10th generation of this famous tea clan. He began working for the company in 1985 and moved up through the ranks to become Director of Corporate Relations, which in layman’s terms is “tea ambassador.” Stephen enjoys the enviable position of traveling the world to inform and enlighten people about tea in general and to publicize his namesake brand.

  There is no name more venerable in the British tea trade than Twinings. In 1711, Queen Anne, a tea lover of some note, appointed Thomas Twining her official purveyor of teas, and Twinings have held Royal Warrants to every king or queen since that time. For ten generations spanning three centuries, this tea dynasty has reigned supreme across the British Empire.

  The Twining family trace their heritage to the Gloucestershire township of Twyning at the confluence of the Avon and Severn rivers. Twyning derives from the Old English word for “between the rivers” and, despite its spelling, was originally (but no longer) pronounced TWIN-ning.
